Dr. Seidman says veneers should be professionally cleaned 3-4 times per year.
DR. SHELDON SEIDMAN: Well I think you’re young enough that in your lifetime you may need them redone. Not that we don’t shoot for the rest of your life, but they’ve only been around for 19 years. They’re in their 20th year right now. And I can only quote research of how long they last, and the research shows that after one year, 93% are still in place. And that includes everybody, even the people that say they do cosmetic dentistry, they [phonetic] don’t know, you know, what they don’t know about cosmetic dentistry.
So the last study they did was a 15-year study. They’re in the process of doing the 20-year study right now. But the last study was a 15-year study and 93% are still in place.
So if there’s anything going to happen, it’s going to happen in the first year. And it’s very easy to kind of fix up one tooth or two teeth or something if you have a problem, but having mapped everything out beforehand, the likelihood is very small. And we really have a pretty success rate.
So I can’t say they’re going to last the rest of your life, but there’s a good chance that, you know, they’re going to last 20 years or so with good maintenance.
